Mental Health and Physical Health: The Connection for People with Disabilities
What can be done to improve the mental health of those with disabilities?
Urzi Psychology, a thriving clinical practice on the Gold Coast has become a preferred NDIS registered service provider of therapeutic and core supports for NDIS participants. Our staff have years of professional training and clinical skills to help individuals to cope and function more effectively in their everyday lives. We can help our clients by using a variety of techniques and strategies based on the most current research. Each client’s treatment is carefully formulated to his/her individual needs, taking into consideration each person’s unique values, personal characteristics, goals, and circumstances.
At Urzi Psychology we aim to carry over years of clinical experience into the ever-changing NDIS landscape. We view ourselves as mental health specialists and treat every client with the care, compassion, and kindness they deserve. We understand that every client is unique, and their treatment will be tailored to reflect that, there are no cookie-cutter solutions for mental wellness at Urzi Psychology. Our principal Psychologist Dino Urzi assess all patients initially to ensure they are matched with the perfect support worker to help create a long and healthy partnership.
From our 1.6-acre farm located on Tamborine Mountain, The Earthing Project was born. The Earthing Project consists of multiple programs where applicants are handpicked to participate as part of their journey of mental wellness.
The Farm Program consists of three different therapy options, art, mindfulness movement and horticultural therapy. This was created to introduce and educate our clients about the importance of sustainable living and the impact these actions can have on their mental health. With a greenhouse, many fruit trees and garden beds our clients can get their hands dirty, learn some important values and inspire other people to do the same. There are also music and art sessions available for the participants with each program being overseen by a qualified therapist in that field.
This is farm to plate at its best. Run by a professional plant-based chef, the cooking class is a fully interactive cooking workshop for our clients. All the recipes are chosen and inspired by the clients, they choose the meals they would like to learn to cook and eat. Hosted at a long table so no one feels left out The Chef will lead the class and ask volunteers to join them in preparing the meal. Participants are encouraged to create their own recipe journal from the recipes and food they have created, taking photos of their creations along the way. These classes help have never been more important in the current climate of intermittent forced isolation. Helping to bring people together in social groups to build relationships in a therapeutically controlled environment can only have positive returns for our clients.
This unique 6 week, women’s only course has been carefully designed by one of Urzi Psychology’s finest. It combines the insights from a qualified counsellor and beauty therapist with the aim of helping its participants reconnect with themselves, love themselves and most importantly, feel proud of themselves.
It is no secret that when we look after our exterior, we feel better internally. This has a ripple effect into all other areas of our lives. Not only will participants feel better about the way they look, they will walk away with a range of easy to make, organic beauty products, making looking after oneself easier than ever.
