With an abundance of natural beauty, exciting experiences, and non-stop entertainment, there’s no shortage of inclusive fun to be had on the Gold Coast. Here are just a few of our favourite support worker-guided activities for NDIS participants.
Hit the Gold Coast Beaches and Waterways
Sun, sand, and surf are often the first things that come to mind when you think ‘Gold Coast’ – and for good reason! The region is home to some of the most beautiful beaches and waterways Australia has to offer.
If you’re looking to catch a wave or two, the Gold Coast Disabled Surfers Association is a great way to learn the ropes in an encouraging and safe environment. The dedicated team of in-water volunteers ensure all participants can enjoy the thrill of surfing alongside their chosen support worker.
If fishing is more your style, Urzi Psychology’s caring staff are more than happy to show you the best spots and techniques to land a catch. In fact, it’s one of Rajeena’s favourite pastimes.
For those who simply want to relax and listen to the soothing sounds of the ocean, we can arrange a peaceful visit to one of the many stunning Gold Coast beaches – the most popular of which feature matting, specialised wheelchairs, and ‘changing places’ toilets.
Explore Nature in the Gold Coast Hinterland
While the coast certainly gets a lot of attention, exploring South East Queensland’s green hinterland is just as rewarding.
The numerous walking trails around Urzi’s home of Mount Tamborine are ideal for the adventurous participant that wants to get away from it all. Ranging from easy strolls to challenging hikes, these trails through lush subtropical rainforest will leave you fulfilled and revitalised. Keep an eye out for the abundant native wildlife, and be sure to listen for the iconic call of the Eastern Whipbird that inhabits this area.
Tame Your Mind and Unleash Your Creativity
Feeling creative? Let your artistic side shine with a group Art Therapy session at Urzi Psychology.
Art therapy uses creative processes such as painting, drawing, and sculpture to help participants explore their emotions, improve their mental health, and promote overall well-being.
Its gentle, guided approach allows for self expression in a safe and supportive environment. The focus is not on sculpting a masterpiece or producing a perfect piece of art, but rather on the process of creating and the insights that come from it.

Cook up a Storm
What better way to take advantage of all the fresh produce that comes from the Gold Coast than with Urzi’s fully interactive cooking workshop? Run by a professional plant-based chef, it’s the tastiest therapy around!
All the recipes in the class are chosen and inspired by the clients themselves. Participants then join the Head Chef in preparing the ingredients, before creating their own personal journal featuring recipes and pictures of their delicious meals.
As well as being a fun way to learn a vital skill, it’s a great means of self-expression and developing genuine connections.
There’s Plenty of Places to Play a Sport on the Gold Coast
Our support workers love a bit of exercise. Whether it’s swimming, bike riding, pilates, martial arts, going to the gym, or just about anything else, we’re always supportive of clients who want to get fit and healthy. We guide participants on the best ways to achieve their fitness goals, help them access recreational facilities, and support them in pursuing team sports.
Rugby League fans may wish to ask their support worker about the Gold Coast Titans’ Leagueability program – a modified game of rugby league that has been designed to allow people of all abilities to play, volunteer and coach. With both contact and non-contact options available, fanatics of all levels can take to the field and feel the rush of being cheered on by their friends, family, and support worker.
